Which books to use after Dogs and Birds 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi Elza,
Fantastic book, I teach my 5 years old daughter and a few other children same age. It's amazing how easy they associate the animals with the keys , while some of my older students struggle with A,B,C,.
I would like to ask you which books you'd recommend after Dogs and Birds?

Hi Bulgar3,

Thanks for your kind words and sorry for being so long in replying to what is a very important question.

At present there are a number of books which I start to introduce in parallel with Dogs and Birds Book 2. These are:

Dozen a Day Book 1 primary (blue) ISBN 0-7119-5431-3
Jazz Starters by Bill Boyd (Elementary Level) ISBN 0-7935-2359-1
First Pops for Piano by Jane Smisor Bastien ISBN 0-8497-6154-9
Flip a Rhythm by Sheila M. Nelson . Books 1 and 2 are combined. ISMN M-060-09771-3

I would recommend all of these.

If you want something more melodic rather than jazzy I can recommend other books. For me the best is “Bastien Piano Basics- Level 1” ISBN 0-8497-5266-3. You can start to use this in parallel at the beginning of Dogs and Birds Book 2.

Another good book is “ Piano Lessons Made Easy Level 3” by Linda Ng ISBN 967-985-440-X.

To continue with singing I use Zoltán Kodály Pentatonic Music Book 1 – 100 Hungarian Folksongs ISMN: 9790060035500. Once students are ready they can easily move over from singing the animal names to singing sol-fa.

We are presently working on Dogs and Birds 3, which will take students up to grade 1 level, and also a popular tune/nursery rhyme book.

Hope this helps.

Elza
